Mainfonds Airshow

Mainfonds is a fantastic Airshow/Balloon Festival  in Southern France. Although they required the Duo, Chris was sadly not available.

In previous years I preferred to go alone as a solo but a reflection of the current team is I genuinely missed having Chris along. Again From the UK the only other act were the Breitling Wingwalkers team which made the evenings a lot of fun.

The Mainfonds display site is about 25KM from the base airfield. A qualification display was essential as I struggled to find the place and even when I did find it you would do a 360 turn and loose it again. But over the event day, the large crowds and car parks made this a lot easier as did the GPS.

The daytime show was very early so straight out of briefing . Beautiful blue Skies that only Southern France can provide were the order of the day. Normally its nice to be early and to then relax and watch the rest of the show but for me I had a 7 hour wait until the next display so went to the hotel and had a sleep.

Revived I pyro-ed up plane and was able to do a far more aggressive solo than we can a solo and incorporate far more rolling figures.

The Twister is built for this sort of show as it can transit over 400NM in one go so a lovely homeward journey in still air finished a lovely weekend.
