Sunderland International Airshow

The end of July saw the Twister Aerobatic Team return to one of their favourite events, the Sunderland International Airshow. The biggest event of its kind in the North East, the show attracts massive audiences which near the 1 million mark over the three days.

Friday night sees a massive launch party at the display site. Since we first appeared there it has grown massively in content and popularity. As well as live music and all the fun of the fair, it features nearly all of the Royal Air Force’s displays in the fading summer evening light. It is always a privilege for the Twisters to close the flying part of the party with out pyro show which acts as a catalyst for the fireworks finale on the ground.

Pete and Chris also performed over the main show days. This year was a truly international affair with the beautiful Vampires and MiG-15 from Norway, the French Patrouille Reva and our Belgian friends from the Bronco Demo Team. Saturday saw mostly good weather for the show, but Sunday proved a little more problematic with bad weather encroaching towards Sunderland throughout the day.

We are extremely to Sunderland City Council and Sunderland Live for inviting us to attend again this year and looking after us so well. Also thanks to Ian Sheeley and his team from TSA Consulting for helping the flying display run on rails despite a number of changes to work around the weather and our other displays.
