Bournemouth Air Festival

Filed in Team News by on 30th August 2014

One of our favourite events of the year is the Bournemouth Air Festival. This year with the duo away in China, Jon Gowdy represented the team with a solo pyro display alongside Brendan O’Brien in his Piper Cub during Bournemouth’s famous Night Air displays.

Bournemouth is perhaps one of the biggest airshow in the world in terms of sheer crwod size. Over the four days this year, over 1,000,000 people came to Bournemouth to enjoy the festivals. The entertainment continues throughout those four days with flying displays during the day and early evening augmented by ground entertainment such as the Royal Marines unarmed combat display and sunset ceremony on the cliffs plus beach concerts well into the Night.

The Night Air Displays take place on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. This year over the different days Jon and Brendan were joined by the Army’s Red Devils Parachute Team, the wonderful Rolls Royce Spitfire PR XIX, The Blades Aerobatic Team plus Jonathon Whaley in his colourful Hawker Hunter.

Jon and Brendan flew a coordinated display on each evening arriving in formation before splitting into their solo display routines. Saturday and Thursday saw near perfect weather, but Friday was a little trickier thanks to some brisk winds and some big showers skirting the Dorset coastline.

Thanks as ever to the team from TSA Consulting and to Bournemouth Council for their brilliant hospitality.
