Sunderland International Airshow

Filed in Team News by on 28th July 2013

The Sunderland International Airshow celebrated its 25th show this year and we were delighted to be asked back to participate at the Friday Night Launch Party for the event. The largest event of its kind in the North East, the event regularly attracts crowds approaching 1 million over the three days.

The Friday night event has grown and grown over the past few years and this year it was almost a mini-airshow in its own right with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Red Arrows and RAF Typhoon performing in the early sunset. It was the perfect evening and a large crowd not only enjoyed the flying but also a great concert featuring military bands and tribute acts. We brought the flying element to a close with the display debut of our three-ship display with Pete and Guy in the familiar G-SWIP and G-ZWIP and Jon flying G-JINX. Following an opening segment with all three aircraft together Jon performed a solo pyro display before the duo closed the display before a hige volley of fireworks went up from the harbour wall!

We returned to Sunderland on the Sunday following a last minute request for a display following some cancellations. Despite some early rain the weather cleared and there was a good crowd again on the seafront and Pete and Guy were able to perform a full duo display.

Thanks go to Ian Sheeley of TSA Consulting Ltd and Sunderland Live for the invite to display plus everybody at Samson and Newcastle Airport for looking after us.
